After a very successful inaugural series of three Grom Patrol events in 2019, Tipi Jabrik’s Grom Patrol Camp and Comp is back again but with five weekend events planned for 2020. Certainly this year’s Grom Patrol will a bit different from last year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation, but it will continue to have a high level of fun and value for the young up-and-coming groms of Bali.

This year the five 3-day camps will run over five weekends starting in mid-July and ending in mid August, based at the new Kosta Hostel in Berawa. Dates will be 17-19 July, 24-26 July, 31 July – 2 August, 7-9 August and 14-16 August respectively.

A reasonable fee of Rp 2,900,000 gets each participant accommodation, food, transport, coaching-video analysis, gift packs from sponsors, entry into the on-line competition, and video clips and photos for each 3-day camp. Initially there will be a limit of 10 slots available for the first camp, but hopefully there will be an opportunity to expanding the future.

Each day at the beach, the groms will be under the supervision of ISA certified surf coaches Dylan Amar and Mustofa Jeksen to receive their training and instruction, while assisted by Bali’s best up and coming pro surfers including Ketut Agus, Rio Waida, Kailani Johnson, Dhea Natasya, Diah Rayahu Dewi, and others.

In the evenings after their dinner at Kosta Hostel, the groms will set down for video analysis sessions to see themselves in action, which quickly allows them to see both their strengths and the area’s they need to work on more for the next day’s session.

Due to current regulations that limit gatherings to 25 people or less it is not possible to stage a full surf competition this year, so instead the Comp will be a modified on-line event where the competitors will be judged on their two best video clips (captured by a dedicated Grom Patrol videographer at the beach) and not competing live on the beach in front of judges. Entries will be limited. Tipi Jabrik and Rizal Tanjung will be judging the weekly clips.

This year there will be six divisions of competition: Under 17 Girls, Under 14 Girls, Under 10 Girls, Under 17 Boys, Under 14 Boys, and Under 10 Boys. Prizes will be given for the winners in each division for each weekend event, and the top four finalists in each division will be entered into the Grand Final to win special prizes from event sponsors and be crowned Grom

Patrol 2020 Champions. We plan to have the Grom Patrol 2020 Grand Finals judged by a WCT pro surfer, and tentatively Kanoa Igarashi has signed on to do the job!

Here is the basic schedule we will follow for all Grom Patrol Camps and Comps this year:

Friday: Check in at Kosta Hostel Berawa, Surf (Lunch at the beach)

Saturday: Breakfast, Surf (Lunch at the beach), Dinner, Video screening of the surf

Sunday: Breakfast, Surf until 12 noon, Presentation from 3-4 PM at Kosta Hostel Berawa for the weekly Comp winners

Details: The Grom Patrol Camp and Comp includes two nights/days accommodation at Kosta Hostel Berawa, meals, training and video analysis, transportation, a gift packs, entry into the GP Online Competition, and a Grom Patrol Certificate.

Video clips, press releases and digital photos will be available to participants via Dropbox link each Monday/Tuesday (depending on the quantity of participants).

Due the COVID 19 pandemic, all participants will be required to bring and use their own face masks, as well as observe social distancing rules (avoid gathering in large groups) staying 1 meter apart, and washing their hands thoroughly with soap or hand sanitizer at every opportunity. Please do not share personal items as well.
