17 November, 2019, Bali-Indonesia:  REnextop Entertainment, together with the Asian Surf Cooperative (ASC) and Safari Xtreme are delighted to announce a return to the cozy beachside town of Cherating in Pahang on the east coast of Malaysia for the third and final stop of the 2019 REnextop Asian Surfing Tour (RAST), which will be held from 15-17 December.

Cherating’s sand bottomed left-hand point break offered up super fun waves for last year’s 2018 RAST #3 year end championship, which led to this year’s decision to return, as competitors and organizers alike thoroughly enjoyed what was for most of them their first ever Malaysian surfing experience.

Located just about an hour’s drive north of Kuantan, and about a three-hour drive from the big city of Kuala Lumpur, Cherating’s surf season generally starts in late November and it can get waves until as late as March, which is due to its location on the west end of the South China Sea.

Leading contenders for RAST 2019 championships are as follows; in the Men’s Shortboard Division are Indonesia’s Mega Artana with a win in India, Rio Waida with a win in Bali, who have the best shot at the championship trophy, and in the Women’s Shortboard it’s Dhea Natasya from Indonesia and Hayanna Iguchi (Bali/Brazil) who both have event wins to set them on top of the rankings.

In the Men’s Longboard Division, Indonesia’s Arip “Mencos” Nurhidayat and Japan’s Masaya Tsukamoto both have event wins, and the Philippine’s Marven Abat has two runner up finishes, and in the Women’s Longboard Division its  Dhea Natasya and Japan’s Natsumi Taoka who have posted wins and sit on top of the rankings.

The competitor with the highest points total from two of the three events that will be crowned the champion, and each of the four champions will receive a trophy and $1,000 USD.

With that, on top of the $11,700 USD total prize purse, it’s expected that the event will draw surfers from China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, the Maldives, India, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, and of course from Malaysia to the 3-day RAST championship event.

The prize money per division and registration limit per division is as follows:

  • Men’s Shortboard: $3,700 USD – 32 competitors
  • Men’s Longboard: $3,000 USD – 24 competitors
  • Women’s Longboard: $2,500 USD – 24 competitors
